OCN London – Orientation & Mobility: Theory and Practice

This customised training course is academically accredited and designed to meet the needs of the organisation and the learners. It not only develops orientation & mobility instructors but due to its flexibility, allows ‘support staff’ to gain a qualification in line with their workplace role and function. Each individual unit is accredited in its own right which enables NCBI to build a knowledge base within their organisation that meets the need of the service and one that can be further developed as staff look to take on increased responsibility.

OCN London – Orientation & Mobility: Theory and Practice

In partnership with the Singapore Association for the Visually Handicapped (SAVH), this project involved designing and delivering a course to develop orientation & mobility instructors. This initiative was the first of it’s kind in the country, the programme was written to provide the foundation for a locally academically accredited programme with the far reaching view of sustainability. As well as providing the necessary education for SAVH staff to be able to deliver training to their clients, the country now has a clear path for development of this vital service.

The BTEC Professional Diploma in Rehabilitation Studies (Visual Impairment) – Level 4 funded by The Scottish Government.

This partnership project saw our popular BTEC Professional Diploma Level 4 programme being delivered for the first time in Scotland. The Forth Valley Sensory Centre secured funding from the The Scottish Government for training to be provided to staff within Local Authorities who work with people with a visual impairment. This initiative proved excellent news for the people of Scotland and recognised the importance of providing professional services to vulnerable people with a sight loss.

GP Access Awareness Project funded by Department of Health
Duration: Jan 2011 – Dec 2011
This partnership developed a strategic evaluation tool for General Practice Surgeries to help them maintain and improve access for people who are Deaf, have a hearing loss, Visually Impaired or have learning disabilities. Practice staff attended workshops and used online learning resources to help them develop methods and processes to overcome access issues and form closer ties with local and national agencies to create ongoing support.

Study: The situation of blind and visually impaired persons in Malta vis-à-vis Mobility and Orientation
This extensive project developed and delivered a Preparatory Course for local people aspiring to learn more about teaching Mobility and Orientation training programmes. Maltese residents aspiring to learn more about Mobility and Orientation Training applied for a preparatory course which included both theoretical units (delivered through the use of ICT) and also practical and observation elements.
